Dec. 6, 2022: African Books Collective

Now, through VIVA, Virginia’s Academic Library Consortium, Radford University Library users have access to the African Books Collective (ABC). ABC is an African-owned, worldwide marketing and distribution outlet for books from Africa.

Through this new resource, you can search or browse over 1,500 ebooks on subjects such as African culture, biographies and memoirs, history, literature, politics, and more. Many of the available titles are also DRM-free. You can explore ebooks on similar topics as you browse by clicking on the subject links, and create an account to download ebooks, keep track of your search and reading history, and create custom reading lists.

Aug. 30, 2022: New York Times Academic Pass

With the New York Times Academic Pass, Radford Libraries’ users now have full access to the New York Times website and smart phone app. You can access The New York Times on or off campus for a current, reputable news source. Through the New York Times website, you will also be able to save and share news articles, and set up your own news alerts. 

To access the New York Times website, visit Radford Libraries A-Z Database LibGuide (https://libguides.radford.edu/az.php), and type “Radford University” into the search box. On campus users should click the “on campus click here” link to register or to log in to an existing account. Off campus users should use the VPN to access this resource.  Once registered, faculty and staff will have 4 years of full access, which they can re-authenticate. Student users will have access until December 31st of their graduation year.

May 20, 2022: Oxford Scholarship Online

Radford University Libraries have access to Oxford Scholarship Online through VIVA, Virginia’s Academic Library Consortium.

Oxford Scholarship Online is a vast and rapidly-expanding online library, that provides easy access to thousands of books from the world-renowned scholarly list of Oxford University Press. Spanning subjects across the humanities, social sciences, sciences, medicine, and law, this is an essential resource for student, scholar and academic alike, no matter what subject specialty.

When browsing Oxford Scholarship Online, you can view abstracts for all titles at the book and chapter levels, easily download chapters into PDF format, export citations, and use social bookmarking to share chapters, abstracts, and search results with others.

March 1, 2022: DVD Collections at McConnell and RUC Libraries

Did you know that both McConnell and RUC libraries have collections of new and popular DVDs available for checkout?

You can find a wide selection of Academy Award winning films and popular TV shows available on McConnell Library’s 4th floor in front of the Harvey Knowledge Center. RUC patrons can find popular DVDs available across from the circulation desk. We have multiple seasons of ongoing TV shows such as Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and American Horror Story. Our collections also include movies from DC Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe and animated films from Disney, Pixar, and Studio Ghibli.

If you would like to have a different library’s DVD delivered to you at your home library, place it on hold and be sure to choose the correct Pick Up Option. Or, simply ask a staff member for assistance.
