Upcoming Holiday Schedule

For your planning purposes, the following lists the alternate holiday closing schedule for the remainder of the leave year.

  • December 21 (Friday) – Closed
  • December 24 – 28  (Monday – Friday) – Closed
  • December 31 (Monday) – Closed              
  • January 1, 2019 (Tuesday) – Closed                      

Radford University will resume normal business operations on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. Employees required to work during holiday closures will earn hour-for- hour compensatory leave up to 8 hours for a single day. Please call 540-831-5008 or email benefits@radford.edu if you have any questions.

HR Deadline Dates for Personnel Actions

Our goal is to assist the campus community by processing personnel actions in a timely manner to ensure prompt payment. All personnel actions for new hires, rehires, or paperwork affecting an employee’s pay should be received in Human Resources on or before the dates listed in the table below:

Actions/paperwork received after the deadline dates will be processed on the next available pay date. REMINDER: Due to the volume of personnel actions, HR’s turnaround time for personnel action requests (PR40s or PeopleAdmin actions) is four (4) work days. New employees are not authorized to begin work until notification from HR has been sent to the departmental supervisor.

Please note the late submission of timesheets could also result in late payments.  Please visit the Payroll website for due dates.

2018 W-2 Year-End Reminder

Did you move recently? Don’t forget to update your directory information so that your 2018 W-2 information is correct.

All changes must be submitted by December 10, 2018 for the 2018 Tax Year.

The online directory, Outlook directory and many other campus systems are updated automatically from Banner. If you have moved to a new location, be sure you update your contact information in Banner. To do this:

  • Login to MyRU
  • Click on the Personal Info icon
  • Under Personal Information, click the “Edit Personal Information” button
  • Select Manage My Addresses
  • Click the “Update Permanent or Mailing Address” button

Reminder for Performance Evaluation for 2017-2018

Please ensure performance evaluations are completed. The 2017-2018 performance module is projected to close February 1, 2019.

Performance Plans for 2018-2019

The Performance Plan Program for 2018-2019 has opened. The due date for the performance plan is December 7, 2018. For quick sheet instructions and video instructions please visit the HR website. IRS Announces 2019 Voluntary Retirement Plan Contributions Limits

Beginning January 1, 2019 contribution limits for the 403b (TIAA, Valic, AXA Equitable, or Ameriprise) and/or the Commonwealth of Virginia 457 Deferred Compensation Plan will increase from $18,400 to $19,000. Catch-up contribution limits if you’re 50 or older in 2019 remain unchanged at $6,000. Additionally, the amount you may contribute to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) is being bumped up to $6,000 for 2019. The IRA Catch-up contribution amount for workers 50 or older remains unchanged at $1,000. Employees interested in increasing or changing contributions to a 403b should submit a Salary Reduction Agreement form to Human Resources as soon as possible.  To increase Commonwealth of Virginia 457 Deferred Compensation Plan contributions, log into your online account or call toll-free 1-877-327-5261.

VRS Hybrid Retirement Plan Voluntary Contributions

In addition to mandatory contributions, members may contribute up to an additional 4 percent in voluntary contributions to the defined contribution component of the Hybrid Retirement Plan each month. More information about the defined contribution component can be found in the Hybrid Retirement Plan Handbook.  For new or changes to voluntary contributions must be made by December 17, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. for a January 1, 2019 effective date. Changes made after December 17, 2018 will not be effective until April 1, 2019.

Retirement Planning and Information Sessions

These sessions are intended for employees who are nearing retirement or want to learn more about the process. Each session will cover topics ranging from the Virginia Retirement System and the Optional Retirement plans, life insurance and retiree health insurance options, as well as information on Social Security and supplemental retirement plans. Registration is not required and spouses are invited to attend. Sessions will take place in Hurlburt 248 on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, December 4, 2018 @ 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, December 13, 2018 @ 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.  

Introducing the VLC Help Desk Request  

As a full time Radford University employee you are automatically provided access to the Virginia Learning Center or VLC. However, if you are a student, wage or part-time employee, you will need to request a VLC account. In addition, if you are having difficulties logging on, accessing training or any other VLC questions, you can now submit an online request for assistance through a VLC Help Desk Request. Please visit the Training Registration/Virginia Learning Center (VLC) link to access the VLC Help Desk Request.

PeopleAdmin SelectSuite Training

New Employee/Beginner. This course will be offered to all new employees and anyone who has never used the PeopleAdmin system before. This is a prerequisite for the Intermediate course PeopleAdmin training. It is a basic skills course (logon, user groups, navigation, etc.) and it will be in an online format. You will be able to attend while remaining in your own space by simply signing onto the course. A desktop, laptop or mobile device is required with sound.  A microphone of some sort is recommended if you wish to actively participate. Dates and times for the training sessions are located on the HR Training website. Registration is required.

Intermediate. This course will be offered to all employees who utilize PeopleAdmin for position management, recruitment and hiring processes including search committees. Topics will include flow of actions, position modification, managing applicants, hiring proposals and more. If you are a new employee or inexperienced user you must first complete the New Employee/Beginner Course as a prerequisite.  Dates and times for the training sessions are located on the HR Training website. Registration is required.

Have You Completed Your Mandatory Training?

Make sure you have completed all the required trainings set forth by the Department of Human Resources Management (DHRM). You can find the list of trainings at the HR Training website.

We have reserved a computer lab that will have an instructor available to assist those who may not have regular access to a computer, who may need a bit more technical guidance, and who may just need a quiet place to get away to complete your training. Registration is not required.

Below you will find the computer lab training schedule. The dates are floating and take place from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

CommonHealth's Maintain, Don't Gain Challenge 2018

The hectic pace and frequent celebrations of the holiday season can make it tough to avoid unnecessary weight gain. CommonHealth’s Maintain, Don’t Gain Challenge is a 6-week program that encourages you to maintain your weight by following tips on nutrition and fitness. Weigh-ins are completed at home at the beginning and end of the challenge and will not be submitted to CommonHealth.

THE CHALLENGE: Maintain your weight within 2 pounds from November 21, 2018 through January 2, 2019. That’s it — stay focused!
