Spirit Friday Update

Human Resources has received several queries regarding whether “business casual attire” for Spirit Fridays includes jeans. Employees are reminded that business casual attire does not include jeans. While Spirit Friday is intended to encourage Highlander pride with Radford University branded gear, employees should be mindful that we are in a business environment, and appropriate dress is still required by the dress code. Beachwear (shorts, flip flops, etc.), workout clothing, or clothing that is revealing or tight is inappropriate. Employees conducting meetings with non-Radford University employees should dress accordingly.

Health Insurance/Flexible Spending Accounts Open Enrollment

Open enrollment is May 1 through 15, 2019. The Spotlight newsletter containing Open Enrollment information including premiums and plan changes will be mailed to home addresses and distributed electronically to employees’ email address. All Open Enrollment information, access to EmployeeDirect, and enrollment forms may be found on the DHRM website at www.dhrm.virginia.gov. Additionally, the Department of Human Resources is conducting several information sessions to provide an overview of the open enrollment options. This year, employees may submit changes to Human Resources using a paper enrollment form or by logging into Employee Direct. Instructions for EmployeeDirect are listed in the Spotlight.

Highlander Wellness

May is National Physical Fitness & Sports Month. Regular physical activity is good for your health! Physical activity is anything that gets your body moving. Try to aim for two hours and 30 minutes of moderate activity each week. If you have not been active before, start at a comfortable level. Once you get the hang of it, add a little more activity each time, then try getting active more often. Visit Highlander Wellness for the campus walking map to help get you started!

Memorial Day Holiday

Radford University will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2019, in observance of Memorial Day. If you are required to work, you will earn compensatory time on an hour-for-hour basis. You can view the Holiday Schedule on the HR website.
