Hazardous Waste Management

Chemical, biological, and radioactive waste generated in laboratories and by support services is subject to both Federal and State regulation. At Radford University, all chemical, biological, and radioactive waste disposal must be managed in accordance with policies of Environmental Health and Safety.

EHS is responsible for the collection of hazardous wastes for the University, including all campuses and off-site locations. Organizational units and departments cannot contract with an outside vendor to collect hazardous waste.

There is no charge for hazardous chemical waste collection, except for unknowns or unstable peroxide forming chemicals.

EHS provides training, technical support, and compliance assistance for all Radford University faculty and staff who generate waste. EHS hazardous waste professionals also assist with spill cleanup and lab closeouts.
