Public-Private Partnership Enhances Healthcare Education as Radford University Carilion
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has approved the merger of Jefferson College of Health Sciences into Radford University, thereby formally establishing Radford University Carilion (RUC). This marks the last major hurdle in an 18-month comprehensive merger process with prior approvals by the Commonwealth of Virginia through the General Assembly and the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

Blue Healer and Highlander Pride on Display During Final JCHS Annual Alumni Awards Luncheon
On May 23, Jefferson College of Health Sciences (JCHS) celebrated its fifth annual alumni awards luncheon. This annual event celebrates the successes of JCHS alumni and the legacy that JCHS has built. Approximately 125 JCHS alumni, faculty and staff attended and were joined by members of the Radford University family.

The keynote speaker of the event was Radford University President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D. Referencing the merger of JCHS into Radford University, he said, “Our road to today has been quite a journey that we have taken together. A journey that will improve healthcare in our region, in our Commonwealth and in our country by creating the second largest nursing program in the Commonwealth of Virginia.” Read more by clicking here.

Jefferson College and Radford University Faculty Partner on Health Sciences Camp Presentation
To inspire future healthcare professionals, faculty from Jefferson College of Health Sciences and Radford University’s Waldron College of Health and Human Services (WCHHS), Artis College of Science and Technology, College of Visual and Performing Arts and College of Education and Human Development welcomed a group of high school students on June 11 from the 2019 Health Sciences Camp, hosted by New River Community College. DPT and MOT Programs Spotlighted by National Online Community

Two programs in the Waldron College of Health and Human Services (WCHHS) have earned recognition by HealthGrad.com as top programs. The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program was named as one of two Best Value DPT programs in Virginia. The Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program was named by the online healthcare education resource as one of 11 Best Entry-level OT Masters Programs in the South for 2019. Select Students Exposed to Health Care Professions at Camp Carilion Clinic
The week of June 10-14, rising eighth and ninth graders trained to see what it’ll really be like to work in the medical field. Among the locations where they trained was Jefferson College of Health Sciences at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital. Camp Carilion Clinic is a four-day camp only offered once a year that students in and around our area can apply to get into. Only 16 are chosen. Read more on wdbj7.com by clicking here.
