New CHEM 111 Curriculum

Eight chemistry faculty members met during the Summer of 2018 to reinvigorate the general chemistry lab curriculum. Their goal was to develop labs that connect topics taught in lecture with real life experiences. For example, students learned about the components in energy drinks, developed their own drinks, and analyzed the drink composition. To evaluate the effectiveness of the labs, an assessment tool was developed. This new curriculum was implemented in the Spring of 2019. The workshop design and initial results was presented at the American Chemical Society Spring 2019 National Meeting.
