Harakas Publishes Article in Journal of Chemical Education

The recently published paper describes the anodization of aluminum, an experiment developed for Introductory Chemistry courses (CHEM101/102). The modules of the experiment were designed around equipment that is low cost and minimize the amount of chemicals needed. This experiment can be integrated into college or high school chemistry courses. Students will learn aspects of electrochemistry and materials science in the modules of this laboratory. Anodization is a very important industrial process used for protecting aluminum metal gears to decorative applications such as colored aluminum kitchen measuring scoops. Dr. Harakas is currently developing additional experiments for Introductory Chemistry courses in electrochemistry and other topics. See full article.
