Inclusive Redesign of General Chemistry Laboratories Published
A department wide effort to increase the inclusivity of the general chemistry laboratories has resulted in a publication in The Journal of Chemical Education, “Implementing an Iterative and Collaborative Approach to Inclusive First-Semester General Chemistry Laboratory Reform”. This article was written by Drs. Kristina Stefaniak, Sarah Kennedy, and Anna Curtis (a Radford University Post Doc now teaching at UNC) along with Merrie Winfrey from Radford’s Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning. The article describes the collaborative process of redesigning the laboratory curriculum along with providing the framework for other institutions to implement the approach. This project is one example of the work being done in the department as a result of the HHMI Inclusive Excellence grant awarded in 2017.
