Alpha Kappa Delta: The International Sociology Honor Society

akd10

The Sociology Program at Radford University proudly announces its membership in Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society. AKD was founded in 1920 by Dr. Emory Bogardus with the intention of providing a forum for students and faculty to exchange ideas. Since then, more than 80,000 sociologists have been inducted into more than 490 chapters in 7 different countries. Only Sociology programs that demonstrate theoretical and methodological rigor along with a solid publication record of its faculty and a history of conducting research with students are accepted into this prestigious honor society. Eligible undergraduate students must be sociology majors with junior standing, possess at least a 3.0 GPA in their sociological coursework, and demonstrate a serious interest in the discipline. For undergraduate students, this honor comes with many benefits including national paper competitions, funding support for travel to regional conferences, a subscription to AKD’s official journal, Sociological Inquiry, and the opportunity to meet other honor students in sociology and connect with AKD faculty. In the past two years our chapter has hosted speakers, sponsored a trip to the Southern Sociological Society Annual Meetings, organized recruiting efforts, and co-sponsored an alumni forum. Please contact Dr. Lyman, chapter representative, for more information about our chapter.
