Bioethics Lecture by Dr. Michael Gillette, Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Plan to attend a public lecture by bioethicist Dr. Michael Gillette, President of Bioethics Services of Virginia, Inc., who will make the case for bioethics education in southwest Virginia.  The event will take place on Tuesday, September 17 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Bonnie Auditorium and is co-sponsored by the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences and the RU Scholar-Citizen Initiative.  Dr. Joe Jones, Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies offered this on the significance of this lecture:

** Michael Gillette will offer an argument that increasing educational opportunities in bioethics in the region will measurably raise the level of healthcare in southwest Virginia.  Gillette is the president of Bioethics Services of Virginia, Inc., and is the only successful medical ethics consultant in Virginia.  His lecture provides a good opportunity for students both to critically analyze Gillette's argument regarding healthcare in Virginia as well as to apply ethical reasoning to this pressing contemporary issue.  The UVA Medical School has honored him with teaching awards, and he will be worth hearing. **
