Legal Studies Minor

The Legal Studies minor bridges the skills that are necessary for students to be successful in the legal field with their academic interest. The minor emphasizes logical reasoning, writing, and research as the foundation while allowing students the flexibility to explore law-related topics of interests or further develop their analytical skills in their elective classes.

Legal Studies satisfies the "E" designation in Radford's REAL Curriculum.

There is no specific major that is “best” for law school rather there are skills that students need to learn be successful in law school. The Legal Studies minor is designed to help all Radford and RUC students with a variety of classes that will help them acquire and develop their critical thinking, logical reasoning, and writing skills. Over 28 departments have courses that count towards the minor, so a Legal Studies minor can easily compliment students’ studies.

Mock Trial

Mock Trial a competitive extracurricular activity where teams of 6-10 students compete against teams from other colleges in 3-hour trials. Students play the roles of attorneys and witnesses, both of which are scored. All competitors learn about the law, courtroom procedures, and the rules of evidence, as well as public speaking, team building, and critical thinking skills.

The Radford Mock Trial Team practices in its very own courtroom in Hemphill Hall and competes in tournaments throughout the country.

Alumni Support

An important part of the Law Society is our alumni. The Law Society seeks to foster relationships by connecting alumni working in the legal profession with current students. The Law Society welcomes all alumni to participate in our activities, including those that are still in law school or even those considering going to law school.

There are many ways to be involved, including:

  • Speaking at one of the Law Society Speaker Series events
  • Sharing internship or work opportunities for current students
  • Providing financial support for the LSAT Prep Award and the Mock Trial Team
  • Offering mentorship opportunities
