The Honors College is excited to host a symposium dedicated to finding connections and common ground, sharing interests and experiences relating to Appalachia from across Radford and beyond!

The Mountains, Rivers and Roads symposium is focused on finding and fostering connections and common ground within this complexity; on sharing interests and experiences relating to Appalachia from all corners and vantages.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The symposium will incorporate panel discussions on hot topic issues, communally developed art work, films, food trucks and performance from a range of voices and perspectives. Features will include:

  • Scholarly speakers from a range of disciplines
  • Local land managers
  • Chefs
  • Authors
  • Educators
  • Performers

HOW CAN I BE INVOLVED?

We are excited to support presentations on any topic that touches on Appalachian issues and interests. There are several ways that you and/or your students and classescan be a part of Mountains, Rivers and Roads:

  • Join us as a speaker (~ 30 minutes, on a topic of your choice)
  • Present a poster at our poster session
  • Lead or participate in a panel or workshop
  • Develop a course or course section (supplemental funding and Citizen Leader course designation are available!)
