One of the great literary attractions of Coole Park is the Autograph Tree--a copper beech about which Lady Gregory wrote: "And on the great stem, smooth as parchment...many a friend who stayed has carved the letters of his name." (Source: 2001 Coole Booklet)

The Autograph Tree still bears the carved initials of Lady Gregory's guests.  The plaque by the tree helps to identify those names (click to enlarge it).
