Welcome to the interview section of Whim Sports. In this article you will have a chance to get to know one of the many talented athletes that play for Radford.

This week's interview features Amy Dietz from the RU field hockey team. The senior goalie from Louisville, Ky., can block almost anything that comes her way. Maybe this is why she's been named NorPac Conference's "Defensive Player of the Week" twice this season.

As a junior, Dietz recorded 100 saves in 19 matches with a 2.71 GAA (goals against average). She made 17 starts and recorded 1264:48 in net. She also recorded four shutouts and was named East Defensive Player of the Week twice. Dietz has recorded 55 saves so far this season, and there are more to come.

Now without further ado, I asked the questions, she answered them:

1. What do you enjoy most about field hockey?
The girls on the team, because we're all really close. We do everything together. I enjoy the sport too! Or else I wouldn't be playing it.

2. What made you want to come play for Radford?
Well, at first I didn't know too much about Radford. I had a cousin that played softball here. At that time, our head coach was helping out with the softball team. Anyway, he needed a goalie, and so I decided to come here.

3. If you could improve anything about yourself, the team or the school, what would it be?
I wish we had a turf field. We’re the only Division I school that doesn’t have one. With turf, it's easier to do skills on because the playing field is smooth. With grass, it's very lumpy, and it's even worse when it rains.

4. What goals do you wish to accomplish (or already have accomplished) this year?
I'd like to win the NorPac Conference, which is our conference. If we do, we get a bid into the NCAA tournament, which Radford has never done before.

5. Who is your favorite athlete?
David Ortiz, because I’m a big Red Sox fan and he always comes through in the clutch.

6. What is your major?
Criminal Justice.

7. What would you like to do after college?
I'm thinking about going to the University of Louisville for graduate school. However, I eventually want to do something with the F.B.I. or Homeland Security.

8. What is your favorite food?

9. Who do you look up to or admire the most?
My mom and dad, because both have been through some hard times; however, they always come out ahead.

10. Explain to the readers why they should come watch the field hockey team in action.
Not a lot of people know about the sport. I think that people would enjoy it even if they didn't understand all of the rules. Plus, when we see a lot of people in the stands, it builds our confidence, and we can play better.

11. Hometown?
Louisville, Ky.

12. What high school did you attend?
Male High School [She was hesitant to tell me this because of the name.]

Thank you to Amy for taking the time to do this interview. Be sure to check out next week's edition for an all new one.
