In the throes of dryness
The prevailing weather pattern for the eastern half of the U.S. over the past several months is seen in this image.
There is a wide swath of clouds over the drenched midwest.
There is a clear area that goes up the eastern seaboard.
The clouds that often come up over Cuba and bring moisture to the southeast are diverted to the east, taking their moisture back out into the Atlantic.
