Yucatan peninsula and the Chicxulub impact crater
The image below shows the Yucatan peninsula, location of a major asteroid impact 65 million years ago.
The impact boundaries can't be seen in this visible image, but other images (radar, etc.) reveal the tell-tale shape.
"Ground zero" for this impact was off the northwestern part of the peninsula.Click on the image for a high-resolution version (~160k) of the area of impact.
