NOAA's Hydrometeorologial Prediction Center (HPC) "Daily National Forecast" image shows a daily national weather prediction

Satellites: NOAA-15, NOAA 16, NOAA 17 and NOAA-18, part of NOAA's 850km-high (530 mile-high) Polar Orbiting satellites

The view up and down the eastern part of North America

The image below was acquired by the newly-operational NOAA 18 satellite.
It shows an amazing view of the eastern part of the continent from Hudson Bay in Canada all the way down to Cuba, Haiti/Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
Note the ice on Hudson Bay is well into breaking up. This should not be happening yet at this time of year.

There is a huge swatch of clear weather over the mid-Atlantic and south-central US. This led to incredibly blue skies and clear weather.
Unfortunately, the shorp line of clouds north of this clear area delineated the areas of the US hit by severe winter weather, with huge amounts of snow in the northeast and upper midwest.
