The Ouachita Mountains in southeastern Oklahoma and southwestern Arkansas

newly-operational NOAA 18 satellite shows the Ouachita Mountains in Oklahoma and
Arkansas.
Formed from the collision of the North and South American continental plates,
this region used to be under the vast ocean that covered the central part of the
US.
