Flood plains around the southeast coast
The image below is a false color (i.e.
it approximates what our eyes would really see) image of the south Atlantic
coast.
This image shows clearly how the areas next to lakes and rivers are great
storehouses of water, vital to the summertime health of the surrounding land.
There is a very large and famous swampy area in the northeastern corner of North
Carolina that stands out clearly in this image.
This swampy area is also vital to nature's cleaning of the drainoff water in a
great deal of this area of North Carolina.
