Hurricane Frances
Hurricane Frances' path continues to take her towards Florida.
Now down to a Category 2 hurricane, Frances seems poised to head all the way across Florida towards Alabama and Mississippi.
For more information on factors that influence the paths that hurricanes take, see Kevin Myatt's Weather Journal on the Roanoke Times website.
You can see the evolution of the path of Frances by checking out the previous Satellite Image of the Day pages on this site. Use your image editing skills to compile your own composite image of Frances for the past few days.
Click on the image below for a higher-resolution (>100k) image of the main part of the image showing Hurricane Frances.
When you view the higher-resolution image, note how the low-angle early-morning sun, along with the amazing height of the hurricane's clouds, conspire to create huge shadows extending across half of Florida!
Also in the higher-resolution image, you'll find the small yellow circle marking the location of Radford University.
