A central goal of this second edition of Social and Behavioral Statistics was to correct the typos and ambiguities that we found in the first edition. Though I am quite confident that nearly all of the old problems have been corrected, new ones inevitably arise. To address this in as near to real time as possible, I have developed this web-page as a compendium of typographical corrections and conceptual clarifications that instructors and students can use. Again, this serves the main agenda of this book; keeping individuals from developing compulsions to beat themselves and others with a stats book that just does not make sense. It is truly my hope that you have navigated your way to this resource before becoming frustrated to the point of hostility over a typo. If this is not the case, then on behalf of all parties involved, I apologize deeply. Alternatively, if you know someone who is beginning to use this book, be a pal and point them to this page.

    Reporting Corrections

    If you would like to report more corrections to the book, there are three preferred ways of doing so. First, the link below will send an email to the author with the subject heading "Social and Behavioral Statistics: Corrections to the 2nd edition." In your message please indicate whether you are reporting a typo or point of conceptual ambiguity/fuzzyness/out-n-out falsehood. Please report the page, chapter, and approximate location on the page of the offending text. Finally, indicate what the specific problem is and what you think the appropriate solution should be (if you feel you have one).

    Some problems may just be too darn hard to explain in an e-mail. In such cases, two methods are available. The first involves snail mail (U.S. post, no offense intended), photocopier, and a pen. Simply, copy the page(s) of the book containing the typo, clearly mark the correction on the copy, and mail it to: Jeff Aspelmeier, Dept of Psychology, Radford University, Box 6946, Radford, VA 24142. The second method reflects my understanding of how busy we all are, and that sometimes a phone call is the most expeditious rout to communication. If you would like for me to call you to discuss a problem with the book, then use the e-mail link above and indicate that you would like to arrange a time for me to call you.

    If you would like to report corrections to this compendium of corrections, I will be developing a recursive set of compendiums to address corrections to this compendium and subsequent compendiums to this compendium.... Just kidding. For such corrections, use the same procedures described above, just make it clear that you are referencing the Corrections to the Text, and not the textbook itself. The date at the top of this document, will indicate the date on which it was most recently revised and any required corrections will be made directly to this document.

    For all corrections reported, I am more than happy to give credit where credit is due. If you would like to be acknowledged for your contribution to the compendium, please let me know. Provide your name, status (faculty, student, concerned citizen), and institutional affiliation and I will include it with the correction(s).


    With respect to the organization of this list of corrections, all corrections will be presented by chapter, in the order in which they appear in the textbook. The printed version of this document is arranged in chapters. The html (web) version is separated into separate pages for each chapter. Links to each chapter with identified errors are provided bellow.
