Installing PPP for Windows 95
Dial-up Networking
- Click the "Start" button, point to "Programs", point to "Accessories", then click on "Dial-Up Networking".
- If you do not see "Dial-Up Networking" listed under "Accessories", you will have to install it.
- You should see the "Welcome to Dial-Up Networking." window. Click on "Next".
- If you do not get this screen, double click on the "Make New Connection" icon in the "Dial-Up Networking" window.
- You may get the "Install New Modem" window. If you do, click here.
- In the "Type a name for the computer you are dialing box, rename "My Connection" to "RU_Network. You should see your model of modem displayed in the "Select a modem" box."
- Click "Configure..."
- You should be on the "General" setup page. To the right of the "Maximum Speed" window, click on the down arrow, then scroll down until you see "115200" and click on it.
- Now, at the top of the window, click the "options" tab to go to the options page.
- Check the box next to "Bring up terminal window after dialing."
- Click "OK".
- You should now be back at the "Make New Connection" window.
- Click "Next."
- Enter the phone number. To connect to Radford University's high speed modem bank, enter "633-1894" (if you are calling from on campus, enter "9,633-1894"). You do not need to enter the area code.
- Click "Next."
- Click "Finish."
- In the "Dial-Up Networking" window, click on the "RU Network" icon with the RIGHT mouse button. Then click on "Properties".
- Click on the "Server Type" button.
- Click in the box beside "NetBEUI" to remove the checkmark. Also click in the box beside "IPX/SPX Compatible to remove the checkmark.
- Click on "OK" in the "Server Types" window. Then click on "OK" in the "RU Network" window.
