The low wages for care workers and the slow growth of
their earnings over a decade are illustrated in the above chart. Over
ten years, the earnings growth for all direct care workers was only 2%.
Most of these workers (about 87%) are women, 49% list themselves
as Black or Hispanic, and almost half require some form of public
