Why should I be an ESHE Major?
This is an exciting and dynamic field with a wide range of career development opportunities. Industries within exercise, sport, and health education are experiencing high growth in today’s society.
ESHE classes are designed to engage students in learning. To foster individual growth, class sizes in the department rarely exceed 30 students and learning experiences are generally exploratory and individualized. Instructors also have a reputation for providing one-on-one instruction and supervision outside of class time.
ESHE requires most students to complete extensive fieldwork experiences (e.g. student teaching, internships). This provides students with an opportunity to apply their learning and gain hands-on experience working with current professionals in their area of interest.
Many students in ESHE are recognized as student leaders in their fields. Some are members of professional associations, some seek external certifications, some present workshops at conferences, and some have received professional awards for their achievement. All students certainly have the opportunity to excel.
ESHE offers several opportunities to lead. There are opportunities to help coordinate projects such as the children’s activity program, faculty-staff fitness programs, fitness competitions, or certification workshops.
Many ESHE faculty are recognized regionally and nationally for their leadership and scholarship in the profession. Many hold important professional positions or have received impressive awards for their efforts.
