MUSC 202 302 402 Clinical Orientation to Music Therapy

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:

It is the purpose of this course to prepare the student for clinical practice with a variety of populations using music therapy techniques. This will be met through direct observation of a professional music therapist in the field as well as limited participation at a clinical site (as skills allow). Additionally, the student will be providing music therapy experiences for the class with the intent of receiving feedback on skill development and appropriateness of services provided.

MUS 202:

1. Mandatory attendance at all workshops
2. Three one-hour observations at a clinical setting

MUS 302:

1. Mandatory attendance at all workshops
2. Must lead at least two activities at a workshop that are approximately ten minutes in length 
3. Twelve hours of observation/participation at a clinical setting

MUS 402:

1. Mandatory attendance at all workshops
2. Must lead three activities at a music therapy workshop that are approximately ten minutes in length
3. Twenty-five hours of observation/participation at a clinical setting


NOTES:

For every three unexcused absences, the grade will be lowered by one letter grade

A staff member at the participating facility must verify all clinical attendance

Clinical logs are required for all students doing observation/participation. (Format to be discussed in class)
