MUSC 102 Fundamentals of Music Therapy

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this course is to survey basic literature in music therapy, basic assumptions and practices, and to orient the student to clinical applications of music as therapy.


COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Two or three short papers (depending on need) surveying the literature in music therapy. 2 references, APA style typed.

COURSE CONTENT:

A survey of the various definitions of music therapy

A survey of the components of music and their relation to music therapy

A survey of the historical uses of music as therapy

A general discussion of the application of music therapy techniques to major disabilities

A discussion of professional ethics in the field of music therapy
