New Director of Annual Giving Brings RU Spirit to Job

Penny Helms White knowsPenny White the value scholarships hold for deserving students, and she knows the value such students hold for the university. Her understanding of that give-and-take relationship gives her strong incentive to excel in her new job. White, former associate director of admissions, recently joined the university advancement division as director of annual giving.

An RU alumna, White earned a bachelor of science degree in finance in 1985 and a master’s degree in business administration in 1987. She became an assistant director of admissions in 1986 and believes her experience in the admissions office will serve her well.

“I spent 16 years in the Radford University Admissions Office working with prospective students and their families with the college search and selection process,” says White. “Many of these students were first-generation college students and I had the opportunity to see firsthand the importance of our scholarship program. As director of annual giving I will continue to help students access higher education and achieve their goals. There are tremendous opportunities for growth within the Radford Fund and I look forward to working with alumni, parents and the community in finding ways to support the mission of RU.”

“Penny has been a valuable member of the RU family, first as a student and then as an integral part of our admissions team,” said Charles Wood, vice president for university advancement. “We are excited about the experience she brings to the position of director of annual giving.”
