Calcite
• Calcite is common in marble belts in the Blue Ridge and Piedmont and in limestones in the Valley and Ridge and Appalachian Plateaus.
• Good calcite crystals have been found in many limestone quarries in the eastern Valley and Ridge.

Calcite crystals form on the rocks limestone and dolomite. This sample was found in Wise County in the Appalachian Plateaus of Virginia.
