Apply to be in the program: Students who want to pursue Scholar Citizen (SC) or Scholar-Citizen Fellow (SCF) graduation distinction first need to submit their application to be in the program. There are two ways to apply. Students can either complete the online application or complete the print application and deliver it to the SCI office. Print applications can be sent to or dropped off in Whitt Hall 130/131.

Contract a Course for SCI Credit: Students on the SCI graduation pathway may contract a course for SCI credit. By contracting a course, students earn credits toward their course requirement for graduation distinction. This is typically done when a student is unable to find SCI designated courses that fit with their schedule. Contracting a course will require the support of a Radford University faculty member, and the student must meet additional benchmarks earn SCI credit. Apply for a Scholar-Citizen in Action (SCiA) Grant: This cometitive award program focuses on supporting students enrolled in the Scholar-Citizen program. These grants can used to support:

  • Professional development experiences such as travel to a professional conference, workshop, or academic competition,
  • Leading and implementing campus programming such as a guest speaker or workshop series,
  • Internships,
  • Initiating or participating in a volunteer or service program,
  • Receiving training to lead an Alternative Break,
  • Leading an Alternative Break, and
  • Community projects.

To ensure funding deadlines can be met, completed SCiA applications should be submitted to the SCI Office approximately 4 weeks prior to the start of the experience being funded. In cases where the student is seeking travel funding, the application must be submitted approximately 8 weeks in advance of departure. No application will be accepted after April 1, 2018 at 5:00 PM.   

Register for SCI Graduation: Graduating seniors should submit their SCI graduation application during their last semester at Radford University. If you plan to graduate in May, your graduation application must be submitted by the end of February. If you plan to graduate in December, your graduation application must be submitted by the end of September. In the application, you will be asked to confirm your progress through the program. Please have your most recent Advising Checklist handy while completing the application.
