The Scholar-Citizen program is both a course credentialing system for faculty and a pathway to graduating with distinction for students. If you have questions about any of the applications or forms below, please contact the SCI office at (540) 831-2569.

Register for SCI Graduation

For current Scholar-Citizens who are graduating within the next 2 semesters

No later than the 2nd week of the final semester of your senior year. Note: To ensure you are on-track to graduate with distinction, it is highly recommended that you apply for graduation the semester prior to your graduation date.

Contract a Course for SCI Credit

For obtaining SCI designation for experiences related to a credit-bearing course, such as an an independent study or an academic project occuring for credit.

Apply for a Scholar-Citizen in Action Grant

This competitive award program focuses on supporting students enrolled in the Scholar-Citizen program. These grants can be used to support: 
  • Student professional development experiences such as travel to a professional conference, workshop, or academic competition 
  • Leading and implementing campus programming such as a guest speaker or workshop series
  • Internships
  • Initiating or participating in a volunteer or service program 
  • Receiving training to lead an Alternative Break
  • Leading an Alternative Break 
  • Community projects 

    Completed applications must be submitted to the Scholar-Citizen Initiative Office by April 1, 2018 at 5:00 PM.

    To ensure funding deadlines can be met, your application should be submitted approximately 4 weeks prior to the start of your project/experience.

    In cases where you are seeking travel funding, your application should be submitted approximately 8 weeks in advance of your departure.
