Research / Scientific Inquiry IV is the final course in the Research Scientific Inquiry sequence. Students will complete their capstone research project through the data analysis, results and conclusion phases of their project. Students will prepare a research product for presentation and publication. Each student is responsible for the scholarship work and adhering to work project deadlines as presented. It is expected that each research project presented will be suitable for publication. To demonstrate broad familiarity and expertise with the field of physical therapy, students are also required to pass a comprehensive examination.

Detailed Description of Course

Research / Scientific Inquiry IV is the final course in the Research Scientific Inquiry sequence. Students will complete their capstone research project through the data analysis, results and conclusion phases of their project. Students will prepare a research product for presentation and publication. Each student is responsible for the scholarship work and adhering to work project deadlines as presented. It is expected that each research project presented will be suitable for publication.
    

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

This will be a task-oriented research course, centered on faculty-mentored research project with scheduled activities focusing on preparing three research products: capstone manuscript, regional or national peer review conference presenation and oral departmental defense. Class meetings will follow a writer's workshop format with class activities tailored to the student's needs. In addition, students are encouraged to study individually, outside class time, to pass the scheduled comprehensive evaluation.


Goals and Objectives of this Course

Will require students to:

1) Accurately report research results (CC-5.24);

2) Discuss and defend results of research results for use in the practice of physical therapy (CC-5.22);

3) Prepare a research product that is suitable for publication (CC-5.24);

4) Present finished research product on Research Day (CC-5.24);

5) Critique peer research presentations (CC-5.24)


Assessment Measures

May include but are not limited to:

Paper 40%, Submission 25%, Oral Defense 25%, Involvement 10%
