This course investigates the use of computer applications in the healthcare environment, particularly in the area of clinical practice, education, and research. The use of computer technology in communication and networking is also explored.

VI.      Course Objectives:   

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Examine the role of computer technology in the management and delivery of safe, effective, evidence based healthcare.
  2. Describe how clinical information systems enhance interprofessional communication.
  3. Explore the legal/ethical concerns related to computer technology in healthcare.
  4. Discuss the use of computer technology in practice, education, and research.
  5. Use electronic database search strategies to enhance knowledge base and improve patient outcomes.
  6. Evaluate the credibility of resources including databases and web-based sources of data.
