Prerequisite: NURS 710, NURS 712, NURS 713, NURS 716 and concurrent with NURS 748; or permission of faculty

Detailed Description of Content of the Course

Focuses on advanced nursing practice at organization/systems level. Interdisciplinary practice and advocacy within systems and organizations for the adult and older adult is emphasized. Strategies for translating and integrating evidence based clinical decisions in the individual and nursing practice spheres at systems level to promote safe and effective nursing care are practiced.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Learning activities in this class may include but are not limited to: lecture, faculty/student directed discussions and conferences, clinical performance evaluations by faculty/preceptor, documentation of best practices, participation in assigned activities, reading assignments, computer exercises, case studies and other written work. Because the course is online, audio or video presentations/lectures, discussion boards, chat rooms and other instructional technology strategies may be used.

Goals and Objectives of this Course

At the conclusion of the course the student will be able to:

1.   Advocate within the health care system and policy arenas for the health needs of older adults, especially the frail and markedly advanced older adult.
2.   Advocate within the health care system and policy arenas for the health needs of   adults.
3.   Collaborate with the interdisciplinary geriatric and geropsychiatric care team to improve outcomes of care.
4.   Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to improve outcomes of care for adults.
5.   Incorporate culturally and spiritually appropriate resources into the planning and delivery of health care.

Assessment Measures

May include but are not limited to: Participation in assigned activities, presentations, computer exercises, written work e.g., clinical logs and journals, quizzes, tests, and clinical evaluations by faculty/preceptors.
