Summer 2021 Operational Plan

Summer 2021 Operational Plan Message from President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D. Radford University

Dear Radford Family:

As we have passed the mid-point of the Spring 2021 semester and continue to focus on the health, safety, and well-being of our campus and our community, I am pleased to share the Summer 2021 Operational Plan for Radford University. The plan, which will be fully implemented across all areas of the University, provides important details regarding our operational structure during the summer months, including Maymester, as well as Summer I, II, and III, course offerings, in addition to the return of some of our traditional summer programming and community outreach.

Our Commonwealth, our community, and our campus have made great strides in combatting the COVID-19 global health pandemic. And, as additional individuals are vaccinated on a daily basis, a sense of comfort and normalcy will slowly return. However, out of an abundance of caution, many of the health and safety protocols at Radford University will remain in place over the summer months, such as physical distancing, face coverings, and reduced room capacities, just to name a few. Students, faculty, and staff, as well as visitors, engaging in on-campus summer activities and assignments will be required to complete the COVID-19 Daily Symptom Tracker. All visitors will be required to pre-register on the Reopening webpage in order to visit main campus with a sign-in process required at Radford University Carilion (RUC). And, open/walk-up testing will be available at both locations with a reduced frequency throughout the summer.

Throughout the pandemic, students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and community members, who proudly comprise the Radford family, have demonstrated their responsive and resilient nature. We were one of the first campuses in the Commonwealth of Virginia to reopen after transitioning to a fully virtual environment during the Spring 2020 semester. During the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters, we encountered a variety of challenges and overcame a number of obstacles. However, we stayed the course in pursuing our mission of teaching, research, and service. We carefully and thoughtfully carried out our work in accordance with new protocols and did so with incredible flexibility. I know that the summer experience at Radford will provide memorable and safe opportunities for all who spend time on our main campus and at RUC!

With Highlander Pride,

Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D.
