Commonwealth of Virginia and Radford University Prepare to Implement Revised Social Gathering Limitations

Important Update on COVID-19 Global Health Pandemic at Radford University Message from President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D.

Dear Radford Family:

The Commonwealth of Virginia has announced revised social gathering limitations with the seventh amendment to Executive Order 72. Following Governor Northam’s most recent action, the indoor gathering limitation will increase from 50 individuals to 100. And, the outdoor gathering limitation will increase from 100 individuals to 250. These changes become effective on May 15, 2021 and apply to both on-campus and off-campus. On the same date, these limitations will be adopted by Radford University for both the main campus and Radford University Carilion and remain in effect until further notice.

It is critically important to note that all on-campus and off-campus activities and events must have adequate space available for physical distancing. Additionally, face coverings remain critically important and will continue to be required in all indoor locations, including classrooms, laboratories, common areas, and meeting spaces. For outdoor locations, in which six feet of physical distancing cannot be maintained at all times, face coverings are also required and will be enforced.

The revised gathering limitations continue to be an encouraging sign for our campus and our community. At the same time, the individual responsibility of all Highlander students, faculty, and staff will be very important in providing meaningful opportunities for both healthy and safe engagements throughout the summer months and as we begin the fall semester!

With Highlander Pride,

Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D.
