COVID-19 Dashboard Update with Encouraging Trends Confirmed (Message from President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D. to All Students, Faculty, and Staff)

Important Update on COVID-19 Global Health Pandemic at Radford University

Dear Radford Family:

I am pleased to share the latest update to the COVID-19 University Dashboard, which is now available. The most up-to-date data, which is shared on a weekly basis, represents our continued commitment to actively engage in both accountability and transparency regarding our on-going COVID-19 planning, response, and reporting efforts.

With 40 new confirmed cases this week, perhaps the greatest highlight is the zero positive cases reported from our surveillance testing of a total of 275 Highlanders on our main campus. Last Friday’s testing included 110 students and 165 faculty and staff with a positivity rate of zero percent!

We look forward to continuing to offer testing in the Student Health Center and in collaboration with various partners. This coming Friday, we will offer the first opportunity for surveillance testing of students, faculty, and staff at Radford University Carilion.

Two weeks ago, public health experts advised that our campus had plateaued in terms of COVID-19 cases and would experience a decline. Today, we are demonstrating that Radford University has once again successfully slowed the spread of COVID-19 on our campus by continuing to lower the number of weekly positive cases.

Indeed, our compliance and enforcement activities are proving to be successful as individuals are continuing to be mindful of Commonwealth of Virginia requirements, Radford University expectations, and public health guidance. Our campus is proof that a caring community, coupled with compliance and enforcement, can be successful in mitigating the spread of COVID-19.

In the remaining weeks of the Fall 2020 semester, it is critically important for each and every one of us to continue this important trend. Highlanders, keep up the great work!

With Highlander Pride,

Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D.
President
