University to offer JumpStart Career Development Conference on Sept. 23

Radford University will host the JumpStart Career Development Conference on Sept. 23.

This signature event engages students in career development practices through workshops, an industry networking luncheon and panel discussions. More than 500 students are expected to participate, along with more than 40 alumni, faculty and industry experts. They will share their expertise in the following topics: career development, communication, networking, professional branding, time management, financial management, leadership, creativity and innovation, industry panels, veterans and military, student-athletes and young alumni.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore career interests, learn about industry trends, build the skills that employers want and jumpstart their journey to a career that they love,” said Angela Joyner, Ph.D., executive director of the Center for Career and Talent Development.

Joyner said career center staff have made changes to this year’s conference to address students’ requests for additional workshops, such as resume writing, networking, professional branding and communication skills.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Stephan Cassaday ’76 of Cassaday & Company, Inc.

Cassaday has been advising investors professionally since November of 1977. He has held senior and/or management positions with several major New York Stock Exchange member firms. In 1993, Cassaday abandoned the traditional Wall Street brokerage model and started Cassaday & Company, Inc. in order to provide comprehensive integrated wealth management services to investors seeking independent, objective and impartial guidance. As of April 1, 2017, Cassaday & Company, Inc. has 43 employees and manages $2.1 billion on a discretionary basis for more than 1,400 households throughout the United States.

Conference registration is now open and students can find more information on the JumpStart website or register at radford.joinhandshake.com.
