The Radford University family is encouraged to participate in the Radford Gives Back community service project as part of the week-long celebration of President Brian O. Hemphill's inauguration.

The goal is to collect 10,000 items of non-perishable food that will be distributed to children identified through the Highlander Helpers Backpack Program, the Bobcat Backpacks program and through other assistance agency distribution programs. Food may be dropped off Oct. 10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

Food items requested include soup, canned vegetables, oatmeal packs, popcorn, applesauce, pudding, beans, macaroni and cheese, rice and boxed snacks.

The service project is being organized through the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs with assistance from the Highlander Helpers Backpack Club, Office of Student Life and the Inauguration Committee.

Individuals who are interested in helping to sort, pack and load the food items should use RUInvolved to sign up for the initiative. A group or organization only needs to sign up once on this site.

Sorting, packing and loading will occur on the Student Recreation and Wellness Center MAC court on Oct. 11 following a short recognition program at 5 p.m.
