Campus provides input for provost search

The Radford University family gathered on Oct. 20 to provide input on the search for a new provost. The search committee chair is Orion Rogers, Dean of the College of Science and Technology, and is aided by search firm Greenwood/Asher & Associates.

The purpose behind the campus input is to uncover the needs and desires to strengthen Radford University as a whole.

The open forums were guided by a questions provided by the search firm:

  • Desired attributes of a candidate
  • Initiatives needed by Radford
  • Improvements needed by Radford
  • Points of pride at Radford University

An attendee at the forum said that “we want students to get an extraordinary education and we are proud of the fact that we are here to teach and teach well.”

Participants stated desired areas of focus of the new provost:

  • Socially aware education
  • Improvements to distance learning
  • A balance of research and teaching

The faculty and staff at Radford University want to take advantage of “a huge positive momentum” and expressed a desire to “move forward together as a family.”

The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of Radford University and reports directly to President Hemphill. The Provost is a member of the President’s leadership team, chairs the Deans’ Council and leads the faculty in their efforts to strengthen academic programs and foster a culture of academic excellence.
