Career Services offers February events for internship and job seekers

Interested in internships? Perplexed about protocol? Ready to perfect that resumé?

There's no time like the present to explore professional development solutions with Radford University Career Services.

Career Services is offering a slate of events throughout February to connect students with their future careers. Their mission to provide guidance and cultivate a network of career resources extends to students of all levels across campus.

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Professional Protocol Dinner, sponsored by RU Career Services and Community Engagement and conducted by Kathleen Harshberger, will be held in Muse Banquet Hall. Guests will dress their best and learn about proper etiquette in the business setting. For more information or to register for the event, visit the Protocol Dinner website.

"Time and time again, students tell us that the Protocol Dinner is one of the most useful events we do," said Ellen Taylor, director of Career Services. "Our students tell us that it helps put them at ease when they're in a business dinner in the real world because they have this experience. They can just concentrate on the conversation or interview."

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, the Spring Career and Internship Fair will take place in the COBE Multipurpose Room from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Fair will feature over 35 national employers who are looking for the next generation of talent at RU. A list of attending employers is available on the Career Services website.

For education professionals, the Spring Education Career Fair will be held Friday, Feb. 28, in Peters Hall Gym from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nearly 50 education employers from around Virginia will be recruiting at the event. Interviews will be held on site from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

"For any student that is looking for an internship or a career, this is the time to do it," Taylor said. "Many of the top positions have approaching deadlines so it's important to start planning now."

As always, the staff of Career Services is available to counsel students with internship and job hunts. In addition to advising sessions by appointment, the office offers Walk-In Resumé  Reviews on Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Career services is located in Walker 275.
