National Player’s Production of "Othello"
Monday Nov 13
All day @ Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall
Othello is a celebrated general returning home from the wars, but his dark skin and foreign origin inspire hatred from several people, especially the man he trusts most: Iago. As Iago twists the love Othello has for his wife Desdemona, everyone becomes pawns in Iago’s devious plots. With contemporary clarity this classic tale examines identity, bigotry, and deceit, combining Shakespeare’s language with modern clothing to transform the drama into a powerful story for America today. In the National Players’ tradition of producing invigorating productions for modern audiences, “Othello” stimulates youthful imagination and critical thinking. This company is a hallmark outreach program of the Helen Hayes award-winning Olney Theatre Center in suburban Washington, DC. This is the second production in the University Performance Series.
