Biology students shine in library research awards

Radford University’s McConnell Library announced its winners of the Winesett Library Research Awards for 2019-2021. Six biology majors or minors took home winner or runner-up awards for STEM-related research projects.

The winners are listed below:

$750 Award Winners

Connor Fox – Kaposi’s sarcoma associated herpesvirus – nominated by Dr. Justin Anderson

Isabella Brothers – How the dead inform the living: How applied biomedical research at RU can impact the opioid epidemic – nominated by Dr. Donna Boyd

$100 Runner-up Winners

Matt Shuma – The effects of microplastics on mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) – nominated by Dr. Sara O’Brien

Allison SchainEumops floridanus (Florida bonneted bat) – nominated by Dr. Karen Powers

Gabriel HesslerPlethodon punctatus (Cow Knob salamander) – nominated by Dr. Karen Powers

Drew Myers – Thinking hard: Measuring physiological and neuroendocrine responses to problem-solving challenges in a captive avian social system – nominated by Dr. Jason Davis

Abi Naughton - Humans and mass extinction – nominated by Prof. Kelley
