The International ChemEd Conferences began in Canada in 1973. Originally, the conference was created as a forum for high school teachers to share classroom and laboratory experiences. Over the years, ChemEd has expanded its focus to include science educators from elementary through college with experiences and strategies being shared through a large number of lectures, workshops, and demonstrations. At ChemEd 2001, held at York University in Toronto, more than 1000 teachers attended from all provinces in Canada, every state in the United States, and more than fifty countries from around the world.
