Banner Admissions Implementation is Successful

RADFORD -- Another milestone of the Banner implementation was successfully achieved in August with the introduction of Banner Admissions.  Undergraduate Admissions and the College of Graduate and Professional Studies worked together during the last year to define the processes, forms, reports, codes and rules that drive Banner Admissions. While applicant processing differs between the two offices, the team diligently sought out the common process flows and worked to make them more efficient.

Additional efficiencies were gained by automating some time consuming, manual processes. One example is the online application process.  A third party vendor, CollegeNet, accepts the applications for both areas, but getting the applications into the legacy system was a manual data entry process. With Banner, the application load is electronic and automated to load on demand. Functionality will also be introduced this fall to allow applicants the ability to view and track receipt of their admissions materials via the MyRU Portal.

Other new functionality to note:

  • Ability to electronically accept and load test scores from College Board and other sources
  • Online recruiting module for Undergraduate Admissions to more effectively track and communicate with future prospective applicants
  • Ability to scan and capture documents via Xtender, and link to the applicant’s record in Banner for immediate access and review

The Admissions launch is part of Project RUDI (Radford University's Database Initiative), a major multi-year project designed to review, replace and enhance the university's administrative information systems. These core systems include undergraduate and graduate admissions, financial aid, registration and records, student housing, advancement and fundraising, financials, budget and human resources. Together, these systems provide the business processing, data retrieval, reporting and self-service functions critical to providing essential services to faculty, staff, students, prospective students, alumni and the entire university community. The project was launched in January 2007.
