Interim part 2 - wedding planning: third year and beyond - since Iain has been on the North American continent...

I started my third year June 30, 2003, after having taken my USMLE Step 1 on June 17, 2003.  Iain returned to the States from London August 7, 2003, several days early than he had told me to give me a surprise.  We went to visit my parents weekend of September 12 in Radford (see those pictures in the Gardens page, Misc page, and Elsa pages).  The following are the rest of the pictures from that weekend not otherwise categorized in other subpages...

the flooding Hague outside my apartment in Norfolk Friday morning as I was leaving to head down to Radford.  This was just a little storm before Isabel siz days later...

I picked Iain up at the airport in Roanoke, deja vu from Iain picking me up at the same airport last year when i returned from China.  This was the view of the evening skies and the mountains from the waiting room.

two very excited chiahuahua dogs in a car in the parking lot of the airport.

Iain and I visited Trina in Troutville before Iain flew back to CT

Saturday (9/20/03) after Isabel, I had ran away from Norfolk to stay with Mum in Midlothian, southwest of Richmond.  We had been out of electricity since Thursday and so we had our first gas grill cookout at the neighbor's house with lots of candles, teekee torches, and battery powered radio playing jazz.  Pictured (l-r) our hostess Margeret Hughes, Ron and Pauline Edwards, Harriet the Yorkie, and Mum.

exquisite sunset over the Hamptom Road Bridge Tunnel in the wake of Isabel, all the aircraft carriers and other battle ships have returned to the navel base.

Third year of medical school is marked by sleepless call nights, endless studying for shelf exams, and anxiety over future career moves.  By fall of 2003, i was in the middle of my three-month internal medicine rotation, having finished six-weeks each of family medicine and psychiatry.  Halloween 2003.  the mingster dressed up as trinity from the matrix trilogies.

Auuggghhhh....the holiday season...we took pictures, send out photo greeting cards to every corner of the world, planned the wedding, shopped for wedding rings, ate lots of good food, met tons of family and friends to the point of exhaustion, fired bottle rockets to usher in the New Year, held peace talks between a short-haired grey cat and a hyperactive shaggy Yorkshire terrier, watched heroic battles with real and mechanized elephants, then slept some...
