Presentation Themes
Ms. Tengeni will be addressing the multiple layers of oppression and multi-layered victory for South African women:  resisting apartheid, putting women on the political agenda in the 1990’s, women in government from 1994 to date, and the constitution and outstanding business. Her presentation is open to the public and admission is free.

Background Information
Phelele Tengeni holds degrees from the University of Zululand and the University of Durban-Westville, South Africa, in political science and public administration and does research in policy, nationalism and gender, and land issues. She has taught at the University of Zululand for 12 years and trains women parliamentarians in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature. While visiting RU during the 2002-2003 academic year, she is teaching courses on women in Africa, international relations, international studies, and government and politics in the developing world. Her visit is sponsored by the RU history and political science departments and International Education Center.
