Dr.
Lips to Present Keynote Address
Dr.
Hilary Lips, Director of Women's Studies, on professional leave for the
2001-2002 academic year, will be presenting the keynote address at the annual
convention of the National Organization for Women - New York State (NOW-NYS),
in Albany, New York on November 3rd. The title of her address is: "
A Price Beyond Rubies? Platitudes, Stereotypes, and the Undervaluing of
Women". In her talk, Dr. Lips will address some of the reasons for
the the wage gap, outline ways the wage gap affects all segments of society,
and suggest some directions of possible change. |

Congartulations
to Dr. Moira Baker!
The Women's Studies congratulates Dr. Baker, professor of English and Women's
Studies, on winning the Donald N. Dedmond Award For Professorial Excellence
She won this award because, she has an outstanding record of teaching at
Radford University. She is professionally
active in her disciplines. She is skilled and effective in the use
of innovative and creating teaching methods. She challenges her students,
while encouraging them to initiate their own inquiries and lifelong learning. |

For the Women's Studies 101 Course -- Now |
|
WMST 101 is an introduction
to the interdisciplinary field of Women's Studies through global and multicultural
perspectives. It provides an overview of women through time, with attention
to differences of gender, race, class, and ethnicity. |

This
course establishes a foundation for further coursework in the Women's Studies
minor and other established courses. It is being offered in the Spring Semester,
Monday's 6:30-9:30 and another section on Tuesday--Thursday 11:00-12:15.
