WMST 101: Gateway to the Women's Studies Minor

For the first time at Radford University, a Women’s Studies course will be offered.  We are excited to announce that in Spring 2001, students will finally be able to register for WMST 101:  Women in the World:  Introduction to Women’s Studies.
Dr. Moira BakerThe course is scheduled for Monday nights, 6:30-9:30 p.m.  There are no prerequisites, and it is worth 3 credit hours.  Dr. Moira Baker will be teaching the course.
WMST 101 is an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of Women’s Studies through global and multicultural perspectives.  It provides an overview of women through time, with special attention to differences of gender, race, class, ethnicity and sexual orientation.
This course establishes a foundation for further coursework in the Women’s Studies minor and other established courses, although it is designed with all students in mind.  It can also be taken for credit in Area 5 of the General Education International and Intercultural Studies.
This course will be based largely on lecture and discussion.  It may utilize the instructor’s web page as a learning and student-interaction site through a listserv and chatrooms.  Guest speakers will deliver lectures on specific areas of specialization; films and/or other media may be used to forge connections between students in this class and various electronic resources on women worldwide.  Emphasis will be placed on student interaction and collaboration, including an experiential learning component that will compromise a major student assignment.
The course is open to all undergraduate students. For more information, please contact Pam in the Women’s Studies Office at 831-6143 or Dr. Moira Baker at 831-5352.
