DreamWorld II: Desire, Sex and Power in Music Video
brown bag presentation - thursday noon, january 25th, 2001
Cascades Room, Heth Center
Radford University

How do the images of popular culture influence how young women and men understand themselves and each other?

By focusing on one of the most important aspects of popular culture - music video - DreamWorlds II raises critical questions and suggests new answers about the effects of music video.

Shocking and often disturbing, DreamWorlds II demonstrates stories which impact how women think about themselves sexually, and how men think sexually about women, while giving us a critical distance from images which have become so ubiquitous and normal, they are almost invisible. Written, edited, and narrated by Sut Jhally, University of Massachusetts, this is the second edition of the DreamWorlds film.

Following the video, a discussion was conducted by Pam Alexander, graduate student in counseling psychology.
