ABSENCE OF MALICE

A reporter (played by Sally Fields) gets information from the District Attorney about organized crime activity by a liquor importer (played by Paul Newman). She prints the information, then finds out from Newman that he has an alibi -- He was helping a Catholic school teacher get an abortion. The reporter prints this, and the woman kills herself. Newman is furious and sets up the DA, giving the reporter incriminating information. Wilford Brimley tries to figure out what has happened.
